At the Art & Soul of the Magic Valley. Venue: Stay Well Health Foods, Twin Falls, Idaho

Structure made from steel wire. Paper scales then layered over top.

Making the sail fin. Steel wires pressed between two pieces of paper and glued down. Paper then carefully rubbed to bring out the ribbed pattern.

Small fish based on Spanish mackerel. Made from two pieces of paper sandwiched together. The cut along the gill slit allowed the head to be pulled down slightly and glued into position, Forcing the the body into a rounded 3-D shape.

Life Size Elephant Puppet

Life-sized elephant puppet built for Evolution Dance’s Cirque Maudit show, October 2018.

Budget: $500. Many of the materials were found or donated.
Construction site: Xanadu Community Center, Boise, Idaho

Two puppeteers were used. They strapped into the 13″ tall feet, climbed into the body, and strapped onto two backpack frames to support the weight. Total weight estimated around 30lbs.

Most structure was made from steel wire and chicken wire. Trunk plates made from insulating foam. The trunk did articulate, though movement was friction-limited. With more time the trunk would have been rebuilt for easier movement. Ears and neck also articulated.

Tail detail. The ‘skin’ was made from donated bed sheets, and is removable for transport, cleaning and storage. Tail hair made from broom bristles.

2018. 6 feet long. Paper on steel wire frame. Based loosely on a zebra shark.

The three knobs along the belly control a string of multicolor LED lights.

Fish Beast

2017. Paper over a steel wire frame. 7 feet long. Blue LED lights inside. Based on the dunkleosteus, a long-extinct fish from the late Devonian. Some reached 20 feet in length.
